The Help is a film where I felt compelled to like it even more
than I actually did, I have my reasons why too.
Based on the book by Kathryn Stockett, Emma Stone plays an
aspiring writer who plans to write a book about black women working as hired help during the civil rights movement.
The film has some powerful scenes and strong acting
performances, but seems diluted by the fact that these voices wouldn't have been heard if it weren't for the efforts of a white woman, which, to me, undermines the entire point of the
message.
Like 12 Years A Slave, it's an important film to watch, but
not necessarily an entertaining one.
