The first film of a series that are arguably the most successful video game to screen adaptations, at least financially, but are the films any good? If this first one is anything to go by, I’m still in agreement with those that say video games do not translate to the big screen well.

I’ve not played the Resident Evil games, but do know a little about their content, and this cinematic adaptation feels more like a prequel to the events that occur in the game.

Milla Jovavich plays Alice, a woman suffering from amnesia, who is part of a group who are trying to prevent a virus from leaking from an underground facility with a hi-tech security system.

As an adaptation of the source, I don’t really hold an opinion, but as a horror movie, this is quite weak and seems to be nothing more than a build up to the next film in the series and nothing much beyond that, especially since most of the running time here sees the group defending themselves against a security system rather than a zombie horde.

I wouldn’t say that this one gets me particular excited for the next in the series.
