Tim Burton, in his usual macabre and
gothic style, brings Stephen Sondheim's famous stage musical to the screen, starring Johnny Depp as the title character, a Victorian London barber who, driven by revenge,
murders his customers and drops them down a chute so the piemaker below can process the victims for meat.
Though the grizzly plot may sound to some
as the most horrendously shocking premise ever put to film, the impressionist style and bright comic-book violence makes it eminently watchable, as well as the strong
performances of Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham-Carter, who despite not being vocally trained for the roles, sing incredibly well.
Definitely not a musical for
children.
