One of the better horror movies of the past few years, if not decades, especially when it comes to the sub-genre of teen horrors and/or possession-themed horror flicks.
The story comes from the Australian suburbs, where a group of awkward, dysfunctional teenagers participate in a seance game, where they hold a dismember, mummified hand and invite spirits to communicate with the phrase “talk to me”.
Obviously, things go wrong and one of the members, Mia, continues to be tormented by spirits long after the game is over, whilst the friend of her brother is likewise affected for the worse following the ritual.
For a supernatural film, the plot is actually quite grounded, with characters whose actions you can sympathise with and a scenario that doesn’t feel at all contrived, with a twist ending that feels earned.
More creepy than it is scary, but a great choice for a spooky night in.
A sequel is inevitable, but completely unnecessary.
