A mystery-thriller told from multiple points of view with a horror movie twist, Weapons is amongst the very best films released in 2025.

Following a night where seventeen school children from the same class all left their houses at exactly the same time and hadn’t been seen since, fingers are initially pointed at their school teacher, Justine Gandy, who is suspended from her job and looks for answers as to where the kids have gone.

Further investigations are conducted by one of the children’s parents, Archer Graff, who was part of the mob who initially blamed Justine.

Other characters whose perspectives following the disappearances are shown include that of police officer & Justine’s ex, Paul Morgan, a heroin addict named James, Alex, the only child from the class who didn’t go missing, and his mysterious aunt Gladys.

The non-linear narrative serves the plot well, keeping the mystery grounded until the supernatural twist comes in the third act, with the introduction of Amy Madigan’s Aunt Gladys, whose delivers one of the most memorable supporting performances in quite some time.

The finale does rob Justine’s character of some closure or a satisfying arc, but aside from that, it’s a well-executed and suspenseful piece of work.

8/10
