An impeccably well directed thriller with excellent
cinematography following the hunt for one of the most notorious serial killers of recent American history with a lot of emphasis on characterisation rather than the crimes
themselves.
Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey, Jr. are all
fantastic as investigators and reporters who won't give up without discovering the truth.
It's slightly too long and could have easily had half an hour
or so shaved off in the editing room, but some of the more grizzly scenes leaves a lasting impression, even if the film still doesn't bring any closure to a still-unsolved series of
events.
